Description

  • The Database Administrator Category includes all levels of skills from supporting applications with data input to very sophisticated DBA support of databases like Oracle.
  • The duties may include any of the following: Review, develop, and design data models using standard diagramming techniques, in conjunction with application development teams; create logical data models and translate into physical database structures that integrate with existing or proposed database structures. Monitor relational databases to optimize database performance, resource use, and physical implementations of databases; address a variety of database integration issues including migration between disparate databases, integration, maintenance/conversion, capacity planning issues, and new applications.
  • Maintain development, test and production RDBMS environments.
  • Monitor and maintain database security and database software, in cooperation with ISSMs.
  • Provide advice to applications programmers in the effective use of database languages; advise on troubleshooting, exception processing needs and other data management issues.
  • Maintain availability and integrity of databases through multiple access schemes; facilitate sharing of common data by overseeing proper key and index management and data dictionary maintenance.
  • May evaluate and recommend testing and evaluation of new procedures, software, and hardware.
  • Monitor and manage database backups, logs, and journals; install, maintain, and upgrade database software; restore and/or recover data as required.
  • Create, procure and maintain various database related documents such as manuals and programmers' handbooks.
  • May provide 24-hour on-call support.
  • The DBA may need to have SQL and Oracle.
  • Experience interpreting data models and developing database structures; using standard diagramming techniques to design and develop computer data models; and implementing and troubleshooting programming changes and modifications.
  • Knowledge of security requirements for databases, developing, documenting, and implementing backup and recovery procedures.
  • Experience configuring, managing and maintaining the operation of complex relational databases.
